Joanna Leila has been performing and writing since she was 10 years old. She spent four years studying music at The BRIT School which sent her to India, The Czech Republic and Wembley Arena. Her original material goes back to her childhood memories of seeing The Rolling Stones and listening to Jimi Hendrix, Patti Smith, Peter Hammil and The Grateful Dead. She also recently takes influence from Bon Iver, Frank Ocean and Radiohead to create a mix of soul, blues and rock.
The past few years have brought her to London venues such as The National Portrait Gallery, The Half Moon Pub, The Royal Thames Yacht Club, Rich Mix and Kamio. In 2016 she travelled to Pondicherry, South India where she performed for 4000 people to raise money for a local orphanage.
