Youth Development Program
It's challenging for young people to find jobs due to a combination of factors, including a lack of experience, skills gaps, and competition in the job market. Many employers prefer candidates with specific experience, creating a catch-22 for young people who haven't had the chance to gain it. Additionally, the job market can be oversaturated, with fewer job openings than graduates and the rise of automation further impacting the need for real people in some areas.
To secure a first job, essential skills include communication, problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability, and time management. These skills are crucial for building relationships, navigating challenges, and contributing effectively in a work environment. At The Basement Door we give young people and opportunity to gain work experience, outside of their educational commitments. As well as developing the core 'soft' skills listed above they gain job specific experience; From customer service to event planning and sound engineering to Videography.
AQA Registered Training Provider
Our young volunteers can gain certificates registered by the AQA unit awards scheme. These awards are inclusive and help to enhance the experience at The Basement Door for all young people who want to get involved. AQA's help make young people more employable and supports our goal of achievement for them.
